What This Test Measures

Hemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells. It rises in parallel with hematocrit on TRT and serves as a complementary safety marker. Elevated hemoglobin above 18 g/dL warrants clinical attention.

While hemoglobin and hematocrit are closely correlated, monitoring both provides a more complete picture of red blood cell status. Some men see disproportionate rises in one versus the other.

Why This Matters for TRT

Rises with TRT alongside hematocrit. Monitor together. If hemoglobin >18 g/dL, same interventions as high hematocrit: dose reduction, phlebotomy, protocol adjustment.
